GILGIT: A family video showing two teenage girls enjoying rain in their house led to their murder in Chilas on Sunday night. Their mother was also gunned down allegedly by her stepson and his four friends.
Five masked men barged into the house of retired police officer Rehmat Nabi and started firing, killing his wife and daughters, aged 15 and 16.
According to police, the crime was motivated by a video clip circulated on mobile phones and showing the girls overjoyed by rain in the lawn of their bungalow.
The video, recorded six months ago, was circulated in the area four months later probably after a relative sent it to his friends.
Police believed that the girls’ stepbrother Khutore took it as an “assault on the honour of his family” and tried to “restore the family’s honour” by killing the girls.
Khutore escaped when police tried to get in touch with him for investigation. But, his four friends were arrested and, according to a senior police official, they have confessed to the crime. A case has been registered against the five.

واقعہ اتوار کی رات پیش آیا جب دونوں لڑکیوں کے سوتیلے بھائی نے اپنے چار دوستوں کی مدد سے انہیں اور والدہ کو گولیاں مار دیں۔
ذرائع کے مطابق، پانچ نقاب پوش افراد ریٹائرڈ پولیس افسر رحمت نبی کے گھر میں داخل ہوئے اور فائرنگ شروع کر دی، جس کے نتیجے میں نبی کی بیوی، پندرہ اور سولہ سالہ دو بیٹیاں ہلاک ہو گئیں۔
پولیس کے مطابق، اس واردات کا محرک ایک وڈیو تھی جو موبائل فونز پر پھیلی تھی۔
وڈیو میں دونوں بہنیں اپنے بنگلے کے صحن میں بارش کے دوران ہلا گلا کرتی نظر آئیں۔ یہ وڈیو چھ مہینے پہلے ریکارڈ کی گئی تھی اور ممکنہ طور پر چارمہینے بعد دوست احباب کے ذریعے پورے علاقے میں پھیل گئی۔
پولیس کا ماننا ہے کہ لڑکیوں کے سوتیلے بھائی کھٹور نے اس وڈیو کو خاندان کی بدنامی سمجھا اور پھر خاندان کا نام بچانے کے لیے دونوں لڑکیوں کو قتل کر دیا۔
پولیس کی جانب سے تفتیش کے لیے رابطہ کیے جانے پر کھٹور فرار ہو گیا تاہم اس کے چار ساتھیوں کو گرفتار کر لیا گیا۔
پولیس کے ایک سینیئر افسر کے مطابق، گرفتار ہونے والوں نے جرم قبول کر لیا ہے۔
پولیس نے پانچوں ملزموں کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کر لیا ہے۔
